The vacation time at my work is like a lot of places – use it or lose it. I did some quick calculations and figured out that I had a few days to take off before the end of our benefit year so I decided to take a long weekend. This is no ordinary weekend. This is a weekend just for me.
Usually all of my vacation days are spent with The Kid. I love her to death as you know, but I am well overdue for some me time. I never get me time unless you count time at work and in the gym. I don’t. I refuse to count that. I just wanted a couple days to do whatever I want to do. Maybe that’s nothing, or maybe it’s a lot of something. I’m just going to be spontaneous and go with the moment.
After getting up at 4:30 am to drop The Kid off for a field trip to Austin, I went back to bed. Bleh! Then I lazed around watching Grey’s Anatomy and studying for my certification. I’m not really sure how I missed 8 years of Grey’s Anatomy but I’m now in the process of catching up. I love that show! Studying is going really well too and I’m learning a lot. Not just for future clients, but for me in my own training too.
I got a ton of stuff done on my To Do List after I pried myself away from the books. I know, not very exciting but it gives me a sense of accomplishment plus it frees me up to not spend time worrying about it anymore. I didn’t realize that it’s been over a year since my last computer backup! I’ve been living on the edge and I didn’t even know it. Do yourself a favor and set a backup reminder. I’ve now got one.
I also changed things up in the gym and hit the cable machines instead of my usual barbells and dumbbells. Got to keep the muscles guessing. To celebrate my great day, I made a great protein shake. This one tastes almost like a spice cake. The only danger is that after you have one, you want another. I love spice cake so it’s no surprise that I loved this shake.
Spice Cake Shake
- 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
- 1 tsp butter extract
- 1 Tbsp hazelnut oil
- 8 – 10 oz water
- 6 ice cubes
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Dash of nutmeg
Mix all ingredients in a Magic Bullet or blender. Blend until smooth.
If you had a day off to do whatever you wanted, what would you do? I’ve still got Monday to enjoy! 🙂
