Thing Two

Welcome to the post of random thoughts this Saturday. I have a friend from the gym that is competing this weekend at Europa. We happen to share a trainer so today started bright and early for me so that I could get my workout in before he had to head off to Europa to watch the competition. Since I’ve been up for longer than usual, I’ve gotten a ton done.

It was an eye opener to say the least to workout prior to morning coffee. I could have gotten up a little earlier to make sure I had time for coffee, but sleep was more important to me at the time. I’m patting myself on the back for getting my leg workout done with the virtual roosters crowing.

For the first time in over two months, it is finally raining here in DFW. Just a couple days shy of the “42 days in a row over 100 degrees” record, of course. Thing Two was thrilled to be able to go for a long walk today since it was cool enough for him to be outside wearing fur. He’s now napping contentedly on the sofa to rest up for the next walk.

purple highlightsOn this random day, I randomly decided to throw some highlights in my hair – lovely purple highlights since purple is my favorite color. I basically colored the underneath layer of my hair a gorgeous shade of royal purple. I’m usually rather adventurous with my hair shades but this is the first time I’ve ventured outside of those found in nature. I colored the underneath part so that it wouldn’t be as noticeable at work unless I put my hair up. The color is semi-permanent and will gradually wash out.

I also decided to surprise you with a new small batch cookie recipe. These turned out really well and received The Kid seal of approval. Again I loved that it only makes two cookies so that I can share one, eat one, and not have any laying around to eat later.

Cran-cherry Cookie Twins

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp oil or applesauce
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp milk or milk substitute (soy, rice or almond milk)
  • 1/2 tsp cherry extract (you can use vanilla instead)
  • 1 Tbsp craisins
  • Chocolate jimmies (optional)
cherry cranberry cookies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients but the crasins in a bowl until blended. Stir in the craisins. Roll dough into two equal sized balls and smoosh into a cookie shape onto a cookie sheet. Sprinkle jimmies on top of each cookie if you’d like and press into the dough so they don’t fall off. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8 – 9 minutes.

What are you doing today? Do you ever have random days like this?
