As I mentioned earlier this week, a group of mobile nurses came to work to give us a mini physical and blood work. I got the results yesterday and I actually gasped when I read the results. It was one of those moments where I didn’t actually believe the number, and I quickly sorted through the papers expecting that they had sent me the results from someone else! No, my name was at the top of each page along with all of my information. This doesn’t just deserve a drum roll. This warrants the entire orchestra playing the William Tell Overture or something!
I first wrote about the cholesterol saga here. I’ve been testing annually since my first test at the young age of 18 years old. In all my 40 years, I have never once had a cholesterol test come back under 208. No matter how thin or fat I was, how good or bad I ate, or how much I hoped. Last year in May, my cholesterol was 233. On May 5th this year, it was 232 at the doctor’s office. On June 8th, it was 244 when I gave blood. So I’d consider that pretty consistent readings.
On June 1st, I received my first order of Shakeology and gave it a shot. One of the claims of the shakes is that after 12 weeks, it lowered the cholesterol in the test group an average of 30% and in some even up to 70%. I admit that was interesting, but I assumed it was all a bunch of miraculous claims that the normal person wouldn’t ever see. Truthfully, I started Shakeology for the taste of it. I was already drinking a protein shake each day and they were terrible tasting, watery concoctions. The chocolate Shakeology is to die for, so I converted for taste alone and just pushed all the other claims on the website aside. It’s a hooey anyway, right?
On to the results since you’ve waited patiently this far. Queue the orchestra to start playing now. My cholesterol on July 21st was 169!!!! I’m practically crying tears of joy now as a type that number. A 75 point drop in just under 6 weeks. For the first time ever not only am I under the 200 point risk threshold, my number can actually do the limbo under that bar! I am so completely shocked by this news that I still can’t believe it. I have to assume it is the Shakeology because my eating really hasn’t changed much in the last 6 weeks. I am eating the same foods as before, just less calories of them each day.
My triglyerides weren’t really an issue but even those dropped from 110 to 57. I am patting myself on the back for this one and high fiving all around. I will sing the praises of Shakeology from the rooftops every chance I get now. I was stunned and smiling all last night, that’s how monumental this was for me. So there is my news and I want to thank you for following along with the saga. Celebrate with me in blog spirit!
Happy weekend!
