Does Rosemary Help With A Freak Out Moment?

I have a spot in my garden where nothing grows. It’s a bad spot because when it rains, this spot floods. When it’s dry, this spot doesn’t hold onto any water and the ground cracks. I planted all kinds of things there in the past. Cactus, lavender, other plants that like alternating desert/flood and clay conditions. I installed a garden sprinkler system and watered faithfully. I fertilized and mulched. Everything died until I found the answer.

RosemaryIt was purely an accident. The hardware store had little pots of rosemary on sale. I bought a pot for 99 cents. Basically it was a stick with some leaves on it. I chalked that up to a lost dollar, but it was only a dollar. I came home and planted Rosemary (yes, I named her.)

After the planting, I did nothing. I let nature take care of her. The only water she gets is rain. Last year was the hottest, driest summer in Texas history so she got very little water. She flourished. Thing Two bites and eats her, and I snip a little from her every now and then for dinner. She goes strong. Just look at her! You can’t tell from the picture but she is about a 3 foot ball of wonderful smelling goodness.

Maybe she’s trying to tell me if you try too hard and focus too much, you can overdo it. Some things are just meant to be and require very little effort. Just go with the flow and let what happens, happen. Maybe I’m just reading too much into this, but I like the thought.

I got a gentle reminder that I am officially 18 weeks out from peak week of my next contest. I’m having a freak out moment or two at that thought. Yes, I’ve known the date so this isn’t a surprise. I just haven’t counted it out on a calendar and have been happily going along with lifting, eating, cardio, and building muscle. Now it’s time to get down to contest prep.

Things are going to change every couple of weeks now with my diet and workouts to make adjustments the closer I get. Looking at me now, I can’t imagine I’ll be ready but I’m going to try as if I will be and see what happens. I’ll keep you posted as we go along. Even though I’ve done contest prep before, this time will be different as it is my first prep attempt for figure class.

I’m excited to see what’s in store for me. Like Rosemary, I’m not going to overdo it. I’m going to let what happens, happen. Just in case I have a back up contest planned for 2 months after this one. If I don’t make the first, there’s always the back up. If I do make the first, maybe I’ll even be brave enough for the second as well. A girl’s gotta have goals, right? 😉

I hope you come along for the ride! I may need you for my sanity as we count down.
