Instead Of One Big Day, We Have Eight Crazy Nights

Christmas CookieI’ve had that Adam Sandler song going through my head all week since it was Chanukah. Eight ka-raaaaaay-zee nights! Remember that one? Now it’s Christmas weekend. There was a whirlwind of activity at the Quest Household yesterday, but we got it all done and ended up with a ka-raaaaaay-zee Christmas cookie.

It was leg and shoulder day, but I was running really short on time since the ‘rents are in town. I am proud of myself for coming up with a fast but effective workout all on my very own! It took about half an hour for everything, so no excuses to not get creative on your own, people. You can do it! Don’t just sit there.

It started with a 2 minute run, 1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute of high knees, and 1 minute of butt kicks to warm up. I then did 2 round of warm up squats with the bar to wake up my leg muscles. For the workout, I did 5 sets of 5 squats as heavy as I could go. Between the first 4 sets, I did 1 minute of DB later raises and rested for 1 minute.

After the 5th set, I took all the plates off and just squatted with the bar until I couldn’t anymore. Next I did 5 sets of 5 overhead barbell presses as heavy as I could go. Between the first 4 sets, I did 1 minute of lunges on each leg. After the 5th set, I dropped the weight by half and did presses until I could do no more.

Done! Faster than a speeding bullet and walking like John Wayne. It was good to get it done quickly, but still feel like I had a long, hard workout. Yesterday was also a test of my Whole30 efforts that started this week. I did it though! I had the mindset that I would and that helped a lot.

We went to a pure vegan restaurant last night, and since I’m not eating meat substitute a protein source was challenging. OK, it was not possible. I got the raw salad which was all kinds of salad veggies, nuts, and avocado. I also had a bowl of steamed broccoli and… wait for it… sweet potatoes mashed with coconut milk!

Oooosh, those taters were good. So good that I’m on a mission to get a can of coconut milk for my Christmas taters. The Kid had a chocolate chip cookie sundae which looked delicious and then got a frosted sugar cookie to go. I refuse to disrespect vegans by eating my burger in their restaurant, so after we got home I ate my bunless beef patty.

Are you facing eating or workout challenges this week? If you celebrate Christmas, do you open gifts on Christmas or Christmas eve? Happy Holidays for now!
