Welcome to a day in the life of Adriane! I’ve gotten some emails lately asking how I manage to stick to my workout schedule and what a typical day of mine looks like. As most of you know, I’m a single mom to The Kid who is 12 and my closest family is half a country away in Virginia. I’m pretty much on my own here.
It takes some juggling around of things at times, but we make it work somehow. It’s a little more difficult now that school has started up again. Some days there are after school activities like volleyball games, band practice, band concerts, and other things. I guess most parents have flexible schedules because it seems as though every week is different and there’s no consistency to the after school stuff.
I can go with the flow most days with the exception of Mondays and Wednesdays when I have a standing appointment with Trainer Man. Sometimes I’ll rush home and walk drag Thing Two during band practice and then workout afterwards in the backyard with my barbell and dumbbells. Other times I’ll do sprints or some other quick and intense workout that’s fast but high in calorie burn.
On a very rare occasion that something comes up on a Monday or Wednesday, The Kid sometimes has to (gasp!) walk home or catch a ride from a friend. That’s only happened two or three times so far though. And trust me, the complaining I got about the walk home was an earful. I also sometimes move my rest day around if it fits better with the school schedule.
It comes down to determination to make it work. If something is a priority, you become willing to move things around to make sure it happens. Here’s a quick recap of my day yesterday. I’m tired just reading it!
- 6:00 am – Wake up and get ready to face the day with coffee
- 6:30 am – Check in with my tweeps to say good morning and publish blog post
- 7:00 am – Wake up The Kid and make sure she gets ready
- 7:30 am – Drop The Kid off at school for volleyball practice
- 8:00 am – Get to work and pound down another cup of coffee
- Work, eat, work, eat and repeat during the day with the occasional tweet

- 10:30 pm – Lights out
What does your typical day look like? Are you able to squeeze it all in? I need a personal assistant to get my To Do List done.
You have a busy day but seem to make it all work. Thank goodness for coffee…I wish I could drink it….never have and doubt I ever will.
Somehow it does work for the most part. I haven’t missed a workout yet due to a sudden change in schedule. Phew. Coffee makes it a bit easier but like everything else, it’s an expensive habit. I hate the free coffee at work, bleh. Hope you’re doing well!
