Did Darwin Have To Deal With Fog?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

morning fogWe had a cold front collide with a warm front here the other morning, and then end result was a whole lotta fog. We usually don’t get fog here in Texas so everyone was driving like they’d never gotten their license. One of the worst parts was crossing the high school parking lot after dropping The Kid off at school.

The middle school track team has early morning runs through that parking lot and they didn’t cancel due to fog. So since the young runners apparently had not heard of Darwin and his survival of the fittest theory, it was up to us to see through the fog and avoid an vehicular manslaughter charge.

Note to self, teach The Kid how to run and avoid cars instead of assuming they see you. It got me thinking though about how these kids rarely miss a workout. They run in fog, rain, sun, and blistering heat. I assume lightning would keep them in, but I haven’t seen them miss a day yet. Even at the beginning of the year, some of those kids look like they are dying and moving as fast as cold molasses.

It seems that we lose a lot of that dedication to our fitness and health once we get older and life starts getting in the way. It doesn’t have to be that way. We just need to put taking care of our health as one of those must do tasks like grocery shopping, bill paying, and job performing. Without our health, we wouldn’t be able to do those other things any way.

Set a fitness goal to aim for. It doesn’t even have to be a complicated, long term goal. If a little fog clouds your way, don’t worry. Your goal is still there. Maybe you can’t see it, but it’s on the other side. Just wait till the fog clears and suddenly you’ll have it in sight.

I’m going to aim to drink more water this week (to start with). Three liters per day is the goal. What fitness goal are you going to set this week?

  1. I have had a lot of “fog” hear lately and did not know I could run through it….time to step up my game…or rather get back in it. This week has been a little better and I feel amazing knowing that I am getting my workouts and food in like I should and the scale does notice 🙂

That’s great that you’re back and seeing results. I’ve had the same fog here. I must work hard to get this motivation back. I’m not sure what is going on with me but it’s all mental. I need to get my head back in this and just focus. Told myself today is the day. I will make it so! 😉
