Do you remember that scene from Planes, Trains and Automobiles where John Candy is driving the wrong way? Those two trucks screech alongside while he’s screaming like a lunatic at the wheel. OMG, I love that movie. If you haven’t seen it, you must. It’s classic. Anywho, that’s been my work week this week and I’ve been playing the part of John Candy sitting at my desk.
Work has been insane and I’ve been a master multitasker all day every day. As proof of the craziness, I was in such a mad dash out the door yesterday that I forgot to use hair gel after my shower. In over 4 decades or since the invention of hair gel (whichever came first) I have never, not once ever forgotten hair gel. You’ve seen my hair. Imagine it in humidity without gel and you’ve got Roseanne Rosannadanna. Yep, children cry and look away from me.
I’ve been getting out of work late so in order to still spend time with The Kid, I’ve been working out in my garage. It’s faster that way since I don’t have to factor in travel time. Pardon while I pat myself on the back for being a really great Mom for the sacrifice. This is Texas and it is July. It was so hot out there the 99 degree breeze felt cool and I left the floor soaked under the beach towel I laid down on for my glute raises!
Disclaimer: Please use your own judgement before working out in heat. I drink tons of water and do a lot of hot yoga so I’m acclimated to these temperatures for workouts. Don’t just wing this one without prepping for it.
I could absolutely skip my workout but I’ve discovered that a really bad day is made better with a workout. It gives me time to just put on my headphones and focus completely on something other than work. The endorphins get going and I feel exhausted but so much less stressed afterwards. I know you’re thinking this is just a line I’m giving you but I definitely find ths to be true.
Work is completely out of my control no matter how much I wish it weren’t. I can worry about it, but things will still be crazy for a bit. My attitude and my workout however are completely in my control. I can choose to sit on the sofa and veg out which does nothing for me or I can put myself into the workout and accomplish something. Plus today was leg day so there was no way I was going to miss out on a chance to build a better backside.
Afterwards I got to enjoy recipe #2 this week which involved the crock pot. There’s not much better than dinner that makes itself while you’re at work. I’ve got recipes stacking up for you! I promise their coming.
Do you find that workouts make you feel better? Have you ever forgotten something as basic as hair gel?!
