Greek Chick Pea Souvlaki Wraps with Tzatziki Sauce

Do you think that throwing something together fast means that you have to sacrifice on flavor? I made dinner last night that turned out incredible tasting and I think it took me all of about 5 minutes to make. I try to keep staples like beans and chick peas in the pantry since they’re easy to use and inexpensive. I combined a can of chick peas with some chopped veggies and heated tortillas from the freezer.

A quick mix of a sauce, tossing, drizzling and dinner was ready. It’s similar to a Greek gyro, souvlaki, or … a Greek taco???? Is there such a thing as a Greek taco? Now there is. I used low carb tortillas that I got at Walmart. The brand is La Banderita and they are 81 calories per tortilla. There are several brands out there including Tortialla Factory, Hungry Girl and even store brands. You can also use pita breads or wraps instead.

Due to The Kid’s dairy allergy I used Tofutti’s Better Than Sour Cream. Greek yogurt or dairy sour cream are great options as well.

  • 4 Low Carb Tortillas
  • 15 oz can chick peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup (120g) dairy free sour cream
  • 2 tsp dried dill
  • Splash of water
  • 1 medium cucumber, diced (~120g)
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced (~80g)
  • 2 Tbsp (~24g) red onion, diced
  • 1 cup spinach, washed and chopped (~20g)

Drain and rinse your chick peas and pat dry. Toss with the garlic powder and set aside. Mix the sour cream and dill with a little water to thin it to dressing consistency. Warm the tortillas if desired. Fill each tortilla with the chick peas and veggies. Drizzle with the tzatziki sauce and enjoy!

Makes 4 wraps at approximately 248 calories – 10g protein, 34g carbs, and 8g fat.

You can also throw in grilled chicken, steak slices or even browned ground beef for added protein. These were seriously good and I saved the leftover veggies, sauce and chick peas for lunch. If you don’t feel like another taco the next day, simply add more veggies and make it a Greek souvlaki salad.

  1. Oh heck yes. I used to have a serious love affair with chicken shawarmas and to be honest this looks waaaaay better!! I always use to get mine loaded with pickles so I might have to add some when I make this!
