No Physical Progress But There Was Mental Progress

ab avi 4Guess what time it is! That’s right new avi time. Given that I had a pretty major cheat this past weekend, I wasn’t expecting the numbers to drop this week. I was surprised though that they didn’t go up.

That’s right. I stayed exactly the same in the body fat pinching. It’s nice to confirm that every now and then I can have a cheat and have it not be the end of the world. I’m mentally still coming to terms with that.

You can see from some of my posts how fearful I am of cheating or deviating from my eating plan for fear of backsliding into old habits. This cheat was pretty huge. If I had to guess, I’d say 2500 calories worth of huge – extra – in addition to what I usually eat. Yep, the cake was that good.

The funny part is that I have no guilt and no regrets. I get this chance about twice a year and it was well earned. I had so much fun at the party, trying new foods, and meeting new people. I’m back to eating right, and Trainer Man even said that I looked fuller in the muscles with all the carbs in me. Bonus!

One thing that I do want to stress is honesty. I’m always honest with Trainer Man when I cheat. There are a few reasons for this. 1) It doesn’t do me any good to lie or hide it. He knows everyone cheats at some point. 2) If the scale doesn’t move or goes up and I avoid telling him why, he will adjust my calories down based on wrong info. Again that doesn’t help me.

Finally 3) Honesty is the best policy, right? Just be honest with yourself, your trainer, dietician, nutritionist, whoever. It’s the only way to make progress consistently. We’re all human. I even use a food scale to keep me honest. I tend to be heavy handed if I don’t weigh or measure things.

Tonight I start my fundamentals class for crossfit. It should be tons of fun and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll let you know how it goes. I have double workouts on Saturday this week with class and my leg day. That should be interesting. It’s only for this month though. Phew.

If you could have any cheat you wanted right now, what would it be? Are you honest with your trainer or others when you cheat? And… does that dent in the middle of your abs have a real name? No one seems to know. It must.
