Today was leg day. This month’s leg workout is probably one of the hardest I have ever tackled. I did it for the first time last week and I was ready to collapse after finishing the first superset of exercises… and I still had 4 more supersets to go before finishing.
I didn’t think I could do it but I pressed on. There was a lot of “OK, just do one more set then you can quit” going on. I counted reps backwards to give myself the illusion that I was making progress. I broke it down into bite sized chunks and just kept pushing ahead.
It took me an hour and 40 minutes to finish, and almost 1000 calories were torched in the process. The end result besides the sudden appearance of my quads? A huge sense of accomplishment for completing my hardest workout. Finishing something that difficult feels so much better than stopping midway through and giving up.
One foot in front of the other, one rep at a time and it’s amazing what you can do if you push ahead. The next time you do it, it gets just a little bit easier mentally because you know you can do it. There are no more doubts. I managed to get through it tonight in an hour and 38 minutes! Just a wee bit better than last week.
Lots of mountains in life may seem impossible yet if you keep going and focus on the next step then the next… before you know it you’ve reached your goal at the top. What mountains are you going to climb this week?
